How can a building with no external windows become a workspace?
A speculative study for a landlocked warehouse in East London. Surrounded on all sides by Victorian houses, prevents the creation of external windows that can overlook the neighbouring residences.
So, the scheme extends vertically using a lightweight timber roof, to maximise natural light and volume, whilst minimizing overlooking of the adjacent houses. High-level garden spaces are created at either end of the workspace to bring the outside in, and create tranquil, green areas. The existing walls & structure are reused to minimise the amount of material used to create the new building as well as preserve its charming, London warehouse character.
